Put Sidewalks on Both Sides 165 South

Perry Thomas

Citizens, voters, and taxpayers, along predominantly Black section of US Highway 165 South, from Louisiana Highway 15 (Winnsboro Road) to Richwood High and Middle Schools, are very upset and disappointed that local, federal, and state elected officials, especially Black officials, have not already addressed long needed traffic safety developments and improvements, that continue to contribute to unnecessary deaths of Black citizens, both pedestrians and vehicle operators. Black voters in the area are considering testing their future votes for new candidates to represent them as state senator(s), representatives, police jurors, parish school board members, Richwood Mayor and Alder persons, etc., due to current elected officials' poor performance, inability, ineffectiveness, and failure to get priority funding, resources, expedited emergency approval, installation and placement of sidewalks (both sides), additional traffic light signals, speed reduction, walk-don't walk pedestrian signals and crosswalks, high way lighting, and other needed improvements to enhance public safety. Voters question why should they vote again for incumbent elected officials who fail to bring them infrastructure, economics, business and jobs, recreational, educational, community, social, cultural, individual, and related deserved improvements, developments, and tax return? The only way to effect change is to make a change, especially when elected officials don't represent your rights, needs, wants and concerns. If those Black elected officials mentioned above would work together in unity, and solicit help to obtain funding and governmental approval for projects and activities that urgently needed to be done in the Black community, and along the US Highway 165 S., from white elected officials (i.e. Governor, President, mayors/ Council/alder persons, senators, representatives, school board members, police jurors, etc.) and develop written strategic/action plans that could effectively represent the people and district they were elected to serve. Make your vote count. Vote for change. Go vote!!
