Cypress Point Shooting

January 11, 2024

With a surge of shootings in Monroe, LA, people are feeling uneasy about safety. Most incidents were once concentrated in a specific part of town, indicating a concerning shift. Shootings involve young Black males, and there's no clear plan to prevent them. In south Monroe, police are visible, but they can only react, not prevent the shootings. Despite a significant increase in shootings, especially in the last four years, few plans to address the violence have been shared. On Sunday, December 17, 2023, there was a shooting in Cypress Point, Monroe, LA, where a Black male victim was allegedly shot twice in the back. Many such incidents remain undisclosed to the public, hiding the true extent of crimes in Monroe, LA. Families are suffering while officials act as if everything is fine. The selective reporting of crimes is an injustice, and taxpayers deserve the truth. If you need another reason to vote and understand why voting is important, remember that voting can bring about change, especially on Saturday, March 23, 2023!
