City of Monroe Partners with Food Bank of NELA to Distribute up to 1000 Food Boxes at Monroe Civic Center Friday May 29, for the second time this month. Mayor Jamie Mayo and the Monroe City Council are pleased to announce the City of Monroe is partnering with the Food Bank of Northeast Louisiana to distribute up to 1000 food boxes to families whose household incomes have been affected by COVID-19. Thanks to donations from Monroe’s Neighborhood Walmart #3745 and Ouachita Coca-Cola United, a case of beverages will also be given with each box. Mayor Jamie Mayo says, “Our friends, family and neighbors have all been impacted by COVID-19. Outreach efforts like this remind us that we have a shared responsibility to do what we can to help those in need. The City of Monroe is proud to partner with the Food Bank of northeast Louisiana to do our part.” The Monroe “drive-thru” distribution will take place at Friday, May 29, at 10 am until supplies are gone – at the Monroe Civic Center at 401 Lea Joyner Expressway Monroe LA. To help as many families as possible, the Food Bank will distribute ONE BOX PER VEHICLE. Monroe Police will guide traffic on a designated route, while volunteers from the Louisiana National Guard and other city personnel help distribute supplies. Due to the expected response, motorists who normally travel this area of downtown should plan for detours due to heavy traffic in the Civic Center/City Hall corridor between 8 am and 12 noon. Each box will contain 25-pounds of non-perishable food items, 5-pound bag of potatoes, a bag of frozen grilled chicken, and a bag of frozen peaches & Please clear space in your trunk or seat prior to arrival at distribution site.
