Monroe City Schools' Bus and crashed vehicle

What could have been every parent's nightmare involving a school aged child happened Thursday afternoon at Carroll High School. An incident involving a bus belonging to the Monroe City School Board had a lot of students and school personnel frightened, after seeing it crash into a public library. The accident happened on Renwick Street where the Carver-McDaniel Library Branch is located next to Carroll High and Carroll Jr. High Schools. According to sources that witnessed the accident, the bus appeared to veer toward the library after the driver was attempting a turn onto the campus when the bus hit several cars that were in the parking lot. Then the bus continued into one car pushing it toward the library. Sources say that law enforcement officers and fire personnel quickly responded to the scene. The driver, who was not identified (as of press time) appeared to be unconscious when making the turn that students noticed quickly, according to a Monroe Schools spokesperson.

After the bus stopped, students were able to off the bus to the relief of school personnel. Sam Moore, said that none of the 17 students were injured, and that parents were immediately notified after the incident. The driver, according to sources was alert after the incident, but appeared to be "clutching" around the chest area, in a sign of some discomfort. The library suffered damage to the front doors from the impact of one of the vehicles pushed by the bus. "It could have been a lot worse", said one source. "Thank God that it wasn't".
