No Struggle, No Progress

Don't be fooled, District 5, by the smokescreen of the incumbent. She ran four years ago on the Dawson name. However, for her re-election bid, she must stand on her record, and she has sold District 5 out completely. After nearly four years, all we have in District 5 are parking lots at the zoo and Benoit Community Center, some playground equipment, paint on some basketball courts, and a Dollar Store that was already scheduled to be located in south Monroe. We must fight for more and stop selling our vote out. North Monroe gets millions while we settle for crumbs!

She voted to raise contract bids from $30,000 to $250,000 without council approval. Why such a huge increase? When the community pleaded with her to reconsider, even our state senator and representatives pleaded, she turned a deaf ear to them and District 5.

She voted to raise the mayor's salary when city employees deserve raises as well. Again, she turned a deaf ear when District 5 spoke out against raising the mayor's salary.

She was the swing vote to give Mike Echols, aka Walnut St., a $2.5 million TIF to develop an opera house and hotel downtown. Again, District 5 was against it.

As the council chair, she refused to show the community the redistricting maps. It wasn't until the deadline, in the 11th hour, that she held rushed meetings after outcry from clergy, NAACP, and community leaders.

She also voted with the northside council members to push through Forsythe Park's $5.8 million tennis courts.

And the list goes on and on. We must put a stop to allowing your tax dollars to run out of District 5.
