Help celebrate the induction of the late Lula Mae Goins Green, the first African American nurse in charge of an all-White nursing ward, on Tuesday, November 21, 2023, at 3:00 PM at the African American Museum, 1051 Chennault Park in Monroe, LA. Lula Mae Goins, the fourth child of Mamie and Percy, was born on November 23, 1932, and raised in Monroe. She attended Monroe Colored High. Lula continued her education at the Louisiana School of Nursing for Coloreds in Natchitoches, Louisiana, where she graduated at the top of the class of 1958 as a Licensed Vocational Nurse.
