Community Centers Re-Open

Dispatch

At Benoit Community Center before the pandemic, there was always action on the basketball court with activities and tournaments for the kids.

In a move that should put smiles back on the faces of city residents, city hall has announced that all of the city's recreation centers are now open for, well, recreation. For many who have not utilized the facilities at the rec centers, it is seen a as sign of returning to more of a normal routine for those who have missed having activities in the centers. But the centers, as per COVID-19 guidelines, will not operate at 100% capacity. They will operate at 25% capacity, with special emphasis on maintaining good/sound health practices such as maintaining social distancing and sanitizing/regularly washing of hands. Residents will have to "travel light" when visiting the centers by bringing a minimum of clothing/accessories. The city is also requiring visitors to bring their own water and towels. Recreational activities inside of the centers such as playing basketball will be limited to 10 individuals and those players must clean the balls before and after each use. However, in a time where social contact is still being limited, the city believes that citizens are responsible enough to adhere to safety practices/guidelines, so that with each passing day, the community can move another step toward getting back to normal. The centers will be open 8a.am. to 8p.m., Monday thru Friday and Saturday 11a.m. to 7:30p.m.
