  • Top Cop Terminated Again

    Eddie D. Gillis|Dec 8, 2022

Reggie Brown has been axed from the Monroe Police Department (MPD). Again. It has been about two years since Oliver "Friday" Ellis became Monroe's newest mayor, but there has been what some may call a "stain" on his record as mayor that has to do with how he and his administration have treated former Monroe police chief, Reggie Brown. Brown was the interim leader of MPD when Ellis took office. Brown became embroiled in a controversy over his alleged handling of a police brutality complaint on...

  • Essential Wise Leaders

    Katima Epting-Wiley|Dec 8, 2022

There are very few things in this world, more needed than wisdom. By wisdom much greatness is established. By a lack of wisdom, are many things torn down. This is why wisdom is extremely important in leadership. Wise leaders instruct the people, and prudence in leadership, establishes a well ordered government- even locally. Usually, however the head of leadership is, so is his/her administration. Also, a city begins to reflect its leaders. A neglected city or community begins to reflect a lack...

  • One of a Kind

    Dec 8, 2022

The road to glory has no known appointed rest stop or end route. Life is and always will be mysterious, especially when someone unexpectedly dies. Lee was one of the good ones. He was a servant who kept everyone safe at social events, working as a security guard and sports referee. He knew how to communicate with people from all walks of life, understood people's frustrations, and helped them in difficult times. Lee's demeanor was genuine; he was just a humble guy committed to keeping people saf...

  • Food Stamp Card Scuffle

    Eddie D. Gillis|Dec 8, 2022

Disclaimer: All persons are presumed guilty until proven innocent. One of the commandments that God instructed His people to follow was to “honor their father and mother, that their days may be long". This is one commandment that so many of us dare not break. The family structure of husband, wife, and child is one of the building blocks of a strong community, as it has been since God established the Jews as His people. Disrespect in any manner towards parents was and is a sin against God, subject to strict punishment. That was one thing old s...

  • Monroe Redistricting Concerns

    Eddie D. Gillis|Dec 8, 2022

There appears to be a lot of apprehensions coupled with a certain amount of concern for many residents of Districts 3,4, and 5 in the city of Monroe as redistricting maps are being presented that will show changes that, in the long run, will not satisfy everyone. Redistricting was a word that didn’t matter to people because they thought it didn’t really affect them, but in the current political climate, redistricting is being used for political advantage, as we see more instances of redistricting being challenged in court because of its per...

  • Who Needs the Constitution?

    Eddie D. Gillis|Dec 8, 2022

Donald Trump must feel like a man going down for the third time. First of all, the 2020 presidential election didn’t turn out the way he wanted it to. All throughout the campaign season, Trump had long planted the seed of doubt that would propel his numerous attempts to try to turn the results of the election in his favor, which failed. An attempted coup to disrupt the peaceful transfer of power that he has been faulted with by his followers failed, leading to numerous injuries and several deaths that ensued. The dozens of legal challenges t...

  • "OUR DIRTY LAUNDRY"

    Po Folks Poet Marion Obafemi|Dec 8, 2022

Job 38:22-23 Copyright 2012 Since our tears have been revealed, as the water that is spilled, from raining and leaking eyes When our soul has been broken, and no words can be spoken, that will give peace to a soul that’s tired. I wonder how God would express, the pain that’s in His chest, when He looks down on this earth That He loved to the extent, that His only son was sent, to pay a price that no man is worth. Whenever the Lord cries, the clouds become His eyes, and the rain is the tears He sheds Trying to cleanse this world of filth, tha...

  • Tribute to Chris Brown

    Jessica DeTiege|Dec 8, 2022

Last month controversy in pop culture surfaced after artist Chris Brown was axed from performing at this year's American Music Awards (AMAs). The R&B star was working on a performance for the show that would pay tribute to Michael Jackson in celebration of the 40th anniversary of his famed Thriller album. Chris' talent and stardom have been highly compared to MJ's and, in recent months, even sparked many debates among fans and critics. The comparisons set the perfect stage (pun intended) for Chris Brown to put on yet another stellar awards...
