August 23, 1937- December 26, 2022

Henry P. Johnson, Sr. was born August 23, 1937 in Monroe, LA. He was the 5th child of proud parents Nelson Johnson Sr. and Estella Carter. Both his parents and six siblings preceded him in death. Gobie accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age at Antioch Baptist Church in Monroe, LA. He was a proud Carroll High School class of 1957 graduate, where he was a ferocious athlete for the mighty Bulldogs. Gobie married his childhood sweetheart, Carolyn Sue Coleman Johnson. Their union was blessed with two children, Victoria Zina Wallace and Henry P. Johnson Jr. His professional career spanned several career fields, with retirement from First Baptist Church in West Monroe, LA. Gobie's greatest passion was sports, especially football. He was a die-hard Carroll High School football player, alumnus, and fan. He worked tirelessly to financially assist the Carroll High School football team through various fundraising activities. In 2008,Gobie co-founded the 1st Tee Northeast Louisiana Association for youth. His greatest strength was his ability to make everyone feel comfortable, secure, and loved. He knew how to be a true and loyal friend. He honored and nurtured his many friendships with his generous and giving spirit. He loved to laugh, especially at himself. He could tease and meddle, but never out of malice. He placed great value on a good laugh. Gobie departed this life on December 26, 2022. He leaves to cherish his memories - daughter, Victoria Zina Johnson Wallace (Bobby Joe) of Monroe, LA; son, Henry P. Johnson, Jr. (Mei) of Greenly, CO; grandsons - Brandon (Tony) Johnson and Ricky Huang; granddaughters - Corrina Johnson and Erica Chen; devoted and supportive friends - Carolyn Sue Johnson and Lucille "Cookie" Lindsay, Monroe, LA; three special nieces - Gana, Donna, and Teresa along with a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. His funeral services were Saturday, December 31, 2022 at Miller Funeral Home in Monroe, LA.
