Keeping It in The Family

Cedric Wilson says that he has a love for putting food on a barbecue grill that is like non other. Wilson said that he got hooked on the craft when he was in the third grade. He said that he got his passion to barbecue from his dad, Virgil and it has not left him even unto today. He said that his dad, Virgil had a recipe that he used on his meats that no one could duplicate because it had its own signature taste. Wilson’s father had a car dealership on Winnsboro Road years ago, but it was his love of barbecue and that outstanding taste that had people coming to enjoy his cooking and kept coming back. Wilson was right with his dad every step of the way and it wasn’t long before he would hone his skills on the grill, as he now has his own business. Located at 705 Winnsboro Road where Cloyd’s Barber School is in the parking lot, Wilson has been offering his own unique barbecue, using the same recipe handed down to him from his father. Wilson says that he has been doing his barbecue specialty almost four years and if things go as planned, he is looking forward to expanding the times when he will be open. Currently, Wilson is offering his barbecue meals on weekends form 11:30 AM to 5 PM. Starting this August, he hopes to be open Wednesday through Sunday, still at the regular time. Wilson said that before he ventured out on his own, as he was working with his father, the two got tremendous support and compliments from their customers. We all know that when we taste something that has “the taste” to it, the next question after who’s the grill master, is what’s in the recipe. Wilson says he and his father knew, but that the “secret” is in the base and that came from his father. He jokingly referred to the famous “what’s in the Kentucky Fried Chicken recipe” as a way of people wanting to know just what the secret was. Wilson said that was a sign to him of just how good their barbecue is. Wilson said his specialty is his smoked meats, especially his barbecue chicken and ribs. He also has the “sides” -baked beans and potato salad. The salad he said is his mom’s specialty and that the salad does not disappoint. Wilson does other things, but he said that when he got hooked on barbecue, that’s when he fell in love with it, thanks to his father. Wilson says that he does select work such as catering, but knowing that what he does is appreciated by his customers, has made it all worthwhile. He also knows that he would not be where he is now, if it wasn’t for his father getting him hooked in the first place.
