Ervin "Peter" Turner was a husband, father, brother, grandfather, uncle, friend, and a pillar in his community. He was born to the late Clara Lee Turner on March 20, 1948, in Monroe, LA. Ervin was called home on Friday, March 11, 2022, at Willis Knighton Medical Center in Shreveport, LA. Ervin dedicated his life to Christ at an early age at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, where he was an active member until he transitioned into his eternal home. He became a deacon in 1998, where he was currently serving as chairman of the deacon board. Ervin is considered a dignitary among his peers and will always have a special place in the heart of those who knew and loved him. Ervin united in Holy Matrimony to Kathleen Lindsey on March 3, 1968. To this union, two children were born, Christopher Earl Turner and Roanita Turner Jenkins. Many years went by, and Ervin and Kathleen helped raise his sister's daughter, Ashley. After graduating from Richwood High School in 1967. Ervin furthered his education at Northeast Louisiana University but soon began volunteering at the Tri-District Boys Club. After that, he took over as the Executive Director of what became the Tri-District Boys and Girls Club for over 50 years. He worked diligently to provide many experiences and opportunities for youth across the City of Monroe with the development of three additional Boys and Girls Clubs. His hunger for leadership led him into entrepreneurship with EPT Enterprise, LLC. Several different ventures were operating under EPT Enterprises, including the famous Pete's Fried Chicken in 1986 and AAA Cleaning Service. Ervin was elected as a member of the Ouachita Parish Police Jury, where he served for 16 years. He was an esteemed member of the community serving in several organizations throughout Monroe and the state of Louisiana. The Ervin Peter Turner Foundation was founded in 2003, and with it came the construction of the Tri-City Subdivision located in the Booker T. community in late 2007. Ervin continued to serve his community until he was called to his everlasting home. Ervin is survived by his wife, Kathleen Turner, and his two children, Christopher Earl Turner and Roanita Turner Jenkins. Ervin was preceded in death by his mother, Clara Lee Turner Gix, stepfather, General Gix Sr., brother, General Gix II, and Godson, Jabari McCoy. Funeral services are Saturday, March 19, 2022, 2:00 PM at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, 310 S. 24th St., Monroe, LA. Visitation is Friday, March 18, 2022, 11:00 AM - 6:00 PM at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church. Funeral services under the direction of Smith Funeral Home in Monroe, LA.
