Monroe Dispatch - No Struggle, No Progress

The Republican Party is digging an even bigger hole for itself by totally ignoring what happened Jan. 6, 2021. Republicans in Congress have given up any pretense of “caring” about the nation, when the RNC(governing body of Republican Party), took the outlandish position of saying that the insurrectionists were not at fault for what they did, because they were “engaged in a legitimate political discourse” when they stormed the Capitol. The RNC headed by Rona Romney McDaniels in a statement passed/approved that censured Jan. 6 committee members Republicans Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger for their participation with Democrats trying to get to the bottom of what occurred on Jan. 6. Many in the Republican party have abandoned the rhetoric we heard just days after Jan. 6 of saying that Trump inspired riot was a “bad day” for America and a few of them(McConnell being one), said that Trump was responsible for what happened Jan. 6. That was then, this is now and many Republicans are ready “to move on”, that those who has been convicted in federal court are “paying the price” for their behavior and it is time for healing. Nowhere do those Republicans talk about finding out the truth of what Trump did and who knew what Trump did as the insurrection played out at the Capitol. Now that the Jan. 6 committee is finding out more than Trump would have liked, Republicans sympathetic to the ex-president are finding ways to further shift the blame not on Trump, but on those that did his biddings. McDaniels, who gave up her family name Romney at Trump’s urging because Trump never did like Romney because Romney voted for impeachment at Trump’s second trial. She will not allow the name “Romney” be used if she is identified in the press, the price that she paid to head the RNC. But there are those Republicans with presidential ambitions who are straddling the line, mildly criticizing Trump for the rioters, while at the same time giving the rioters cover to explain their actions. While those rioters are facing jail sentences and a record that will never go away, none of those conservatives leaders have advocated for starting legal Go fund Me accounts to cover their legal bills. Trump, as many might know, has some of his legal bills paid by the RNC.

But when Republicans are pushing the narrative that the rioters were engaged in legitimate public discourse, is an attempt to emphasize the word “legitimate”, saying that the rioters “were right” to do what they did, trying ‘to save” America. They will point that rioters were expressing “free speech” as citizens who recognized that America was under attack and that an “illegitimate” president was about to occupy the White House. Trump had laid the groundworks months in advance of the 2020 presidential election, saying that he lost, he would claim that election “was stolen” from him. Trump knew that all he needed was enough believers to believe what he said, whether it was true or not. And now, many of those who pointed the finger at Trump, will probably that was an involuntary reaction and that they wanted to point the finger at Joe Biden for stealing the election. We know that protests are a form of free speech protected by the Constitution, as citizens can take their grievances before their government. In the case of the 2020 presidential election, that is exactly what happened. Only thing about that, is Trump lost his court challenges, his “grievances” were held and rejected on insufficient grounds or evidence to move forward. Trump and Republicans then employed the same methods that Afro-Americans used to address their grievances with the government. They marched in the streets not to overturn the government, but to live up to the words inscribed in the Constitution that all citizens are equal under the law and those “inalienable rights” belongs to Black people as well. Blacks have never marched to the Capitol in an effort to overturn the government. But hardly any Republicans said that Black people had “legitimate political discourse” to protest. But mention BLM today and Black people are a menace to society.

As the RNC and right wing media(Fox News) embraced this so called righteous cause by Trump supporters, it will only push the nation further apart to the point where the truth is only a blur. The idea is to say it often enough with more voices lending support, that anyone who will sound like Trump using his words because many are drawn to a lie and will reject the truth. Democrats, with the aid of two Republicans, Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger are searching for the truth, that what is legitimate, what is right. Joe Biden is the legitimate president of the U.S. That’s been proven. Politics may be the downfall of this nation if there is no discourse that leads to the truth. Remember, the world is watching. So is God.
