Monroe Dispatch - No Struggle, No Progress

A local woman is still determined to “right the wrongs” that she firmly believes happened to her following the deaths of her parents. The pain of losing her father at Glenwood Regional Medical Center in West Monroe continues to bring pain and sorrow to this woman, as she has lingering memories of how her father looked just days before he passed in 2017. To this day, Darlene Caesar has many questions and the answers are just as elusive as someone trying to catch the wind. Her journey to know the truth has just been that difficult. Still Caesar perseveres on for the truth. Caesar believes that justice in the form of the truth is the only thing that can help bring closure to two of the most painful chapters in her life. There were several events involving Glenwood over how her father’s treatment as a patient was handled that went against Caesar’s wishes starting with many questions. The first question that Caesar wants an answer to is, why did the hospital admit and keep her father without her permission on July 31 0f 2017? Her father was said to have had an alleged stroke, as Caesar wonders then how was he able to choose Glenwood? From there things began to deteriorate rapidly, as Caesar would later be told that her father didn’t want to see her, “if” he had a stroke. Caesar pressed forward by wanting to know why the staff didn’t consult with the Patient Advocate as she did. Or their legal department? One of the biggest questions that Caesar wants an answer to, is why did Glenwood allegedly ignore her legal documents that she faxed to them, showing her legal guardianship/Power of Attorney papers at the time of her father’s admission to the hospital? Things would get worse.

A few days later, Caesar was informed that her father had a new power of attorney, and that they “had to acknowledge” those papers. But in a strange twist of events, two days before her father died, Glenwood suddenly acknowledged Caesar’s legal documents. That led Caesar to believe without any doubt that Glenwood could not have been her father’s choice of hospital, because his wife, Caesar’s mother died there, and her father had Caesar promise him that she wouldn’t take him there. Caesar also wants an answer as to why her father’s doctor over at St. Francis Medical Center was allegedly never consulted of her father’ admittance. Lies and deceit.

“What did Glenwood Hospital have to gain by keeping her from her elderly father, who had Alzheimer’s Disease?”, said Caesar. Then there is the question if Caesar’s father had a stroke and when, before an ambulance took him to Glenwood. Caesar said that her father was coherent, and that he told a neighbor that he “was fine”, as the neighbor said that her father was going to the hospital to “get checked out”. Caesar still wants to know why “no one” at Glenwood would talk to her or answer her questions. The answers that she wanted then, are no closer to her than they were back in 2017. Were there any medical protocols broken or violated in Caesar’s father’s case, including malpractice? Caesar wants to know, as she wants to honor her parents’ memories and legacy by knowing the truth, because she is convinced that both, her father and mother dying at the same medical facility under very questionable circumstances “is criminal”. Caesar believes that, as she clings on to hope, that there is someone out there who will help her get the answers. Lies and deceit.
