Ouachita COVID-19 Serious

Based on reports, many residents in Ouachita Parish do not believe that the COVID-19 is serious. One would only need to see the number of lives lost and the growing number of cases in Ouachita Parish to understand that the virus is a true threat.

Surely, everyone is tired of restrictions and very tired of staying home, but it is necessary to save the lives of others as well as our own. We have an opportunity to have some restrictions lifted and will be able to do some things in the community. We are still cautioned to be safe, wear masks, and practice social distancing as we move about the areas that will be open to us. As adults, we should act accordingly by following guidelines that are set forth, advising others who will listen to us, and give others the benefit of thinking for themselves.

We know people want to have and enjoy some freedoms. It is just as important that we act safely and responsibly. Perhaps, when citizens know when and where they can get testing, they will become comfortable with their existence, knowing whether or not they should seek treatment or not. Most people are living with the unknown, and that in itself is unsettling.

We live in a community of responsible citizens, and it is important to respect them enough to allow them to take care of themselves as they also take care of others.

It was not encouraging to hear the Governor's report that Ouachita Parish is an area that will have to be watched as the state of Louisiana moves into Phase One of opening once again. We must remember to act responsibly as we begin Phase One. As Phase One proceeds, let's move forward with confidence and safety.
