Monroe Dispatch - No Struggle, No Progress

Daisy Bell Haynes Jackson was born on June 18, 1933 in Alto, LA, the second of four children, to the late Ed and Calline Haynes. After graduating from Alto High School in Richland Parish in 1952, she matriculated to her beloved Grambling State University, where she received her Bachelor of Science degree in 1956. She was a proud graduate of Grambling, often caught singing the Grambling alma mater as she traveled through the city along the highway, even into her 80's. Throughout her young adult years, she was courted by William Grant Jackson, with whom she united in holy matrimony on February 9, 1957. They remained devoted to each other in marriage until he was reunited with the Lord on July 28, 2009, a marriage lasting over 52 years. To this union, two children, Alethia and Melody, were born. Daisy was dedicated to furthering her education and obtained her master's degree of Elementary Education in August 1975 from Northeast Louisiana University, now known as the University of Louisiana at Monroe, with an additional 30 Graduate hours achieved by September 1976. She initially taught 6th grade upon graduating from Grambling, eventually retiring as a 3rd grade teacher in June 1995 with 35 years of dedicated service to legions of students who flowed through the Monroe City School System. As she journeyed through the city over the years after retirement, she was often approached by former students who wanted to express their appreciation to her for the influence she had in their lives so many years ago. She sought a personal relationship with the Lord at a very early age at Green Grove Baptist Church, where she remained a lifelong member until she moved to Texas to be with her daughters in 2011. Throughout her many years of membership, she served in several positions, including as an Usher, as the Church Secretary, and as the Announcement Clerk, holding each position simultaneously for many decades as a testament to her dear love for the Lord and for the church. She was extremely devoted to family, showering her daughters with love and firm instruction, while also caring for her husband for many years as his health began to fail. She also cared for her mother and father in their final years as they both began to have failing health. Her very sweet and caring nature often extended to elderly relatives, often making visits to provide food, an encouraging word, or simply companionship and her beautiful smile to many of them throughout the city. She was also a devoted outdoor enthusiast, often receiving compliments on her gardening skills as others passed her home and admired her very meticulous landscaping. In addition, she was fiercely dedicated to outdoor exercise, moving so swiftly on the outdoor walking track that people half her age would comment often regarding their inability to keep up with her. On November 14, 2019, God decided He was ready to receive His child home again. She will be welcomed into Glory by her husband, parents, two sisters, Bonnet Moore and Ethel Jones, and brother Ed Haynes, Jr., all of whom preceded her in death. She leaves to cherish her memory : two daughters, Alethia Brown (Von) of Arlington, TX and Melody Jackson of Dallas, TX; one grandchild, Von Eric Brown, Jr.; three sisters-in-law, Emma Jackson, Myrtis Jackson, and Dorice Haynes, all of Monroe, LA; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
