Monroe City Schools Superintendent Sam Moore III

New Monroe City Schools Superintendent Sam Moore III certainly has his work cut out for him as he moves the District beyond the Brent Vidrine era. Superintendent Moore was recently selected as the new superintendent on March 14, 2024, coming from within the school district. He has a thorough knowledge of how the District operates, but stepping into the position of superintendent presents a new challenge for his educational skills. Moore won the position over two other challengers, and there didn't seem to be a sizable number of individuals who sought out the job, which in itself was interesting. Moore was selected by board members by a 4-3 vote, which was somewhat surprising given that Moore is well known by the community and also for his pastoral duties at a local church. Some might have thought that the vote might have been more unanimous than it was, but the board, by a 7-0 acclamation, agreed to accept the results. Moore will face numerous challenges in trying to "right the boat" in a system that has seen its share of disappointments with declining student numbers over the years.

Moore accepts his position coming on the heels of a controversial ending to former Superintendent Brent Vidrine's tenure, who retired following months of investigations for alleged "misconduct." During his interview before being selected, Moore said, "we have the resources, we have the tools to redirect our kids," when it comes to turning around failing schools. Some may ask, how well have those resources been utilized? Relying on input from the board, students, and the community, Moore emphasized that with the increased powers of the superintendent, that power should not be abused. In his experience over the years, he has listened to the students and the teachers while acknowledging that the superintendent works for the District. Moore said, "every decision that I make will be number one in the best interest of the children." With that being said, Mr. Moore, you have the title!
