Hard Labor Life Sentence + Ten Years

On February 12, 2024, Judge Frederick Jones handed down a life sentence with hard labor plus ten years to defendant Teddrick Jawan Jones for the February 26, 2021, homicide of Reginald Copning. The trial spanned four days in October 2023, during which the defendant faced charges of Second Degree Murder and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon. Presiding over a bench trial, Judge Jones found the defendant guilty on both counts. Alongside the life sentence for the homicide, Judge Jones also imposed a ten-year term of hard labor for the charge of Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon. Prosecuting the case were Assistant District Attorneys Douglas Walker and Barbara Ann Holladay Coldiron.
