Monti Sharp: Homecoming Black History Exhibition

January 25, 2024

Monti Sharp, a revered figure in our community, is set to journey back to his artistic roots. His connection to the Monroe Arts community traces its origins to his days at Ouachita Jr. High, where he first captivated audiences at the Monroe Little Theatre. This marked the beginning of an artistic odyssey that would take him across the nation, leaving an indelible mark from the stages of New York City to the heart of Los Angeles, where he now resides. In 2022, Monroe had the privilege of experiencing Monti's artistic brilliance at the successful art show hosted by Monroe's Revival Design & Consign, a local business in the historic downtown area. Now, he is returning with a larger display of artwork hosted by the Northeast Louisiana Delta African-American Heritage Museum from February 2nd through the 16th as part of its celebration of Black History Month. Doors will be open from 10 am to 4 pm Tuesday through Friday, and Saturdays from 10 am to 2 pm. The exhibition will commence with an Artist Reception on February 2nd, from 3 pm to 7 pm, at 1051 Chennault Park Dr., Monroe, LA 71203. The museum serves as a significant backdrop for highlighting this crucial moment in Monti's continued artistic journey. Monti's collection reflects his enduring connection to our local arts community and features a special work of art paying tribute to his late father, civil rights attorney James Sharp, Jr. On loan from the Monroe City Court, this touching piece adds a personal touch to the exhibition. This heartwarming homecoming exhibition in honor of Black History Month signifies a pivotal moment in Monti Sharp's artistic narrative, inviting the community to participate in the continued evolution of a local talent. From winning a Daytime Emmy award for his role in the daytime drama "Guiding Light" to his appearances in the classic film "Dead Presidents" and television shows like "Bosch," "Modern Family," and "How to Get Away with Murder," Monti brings a wealth of experience and artistry to our doorstep. As we anticipate this significant event, stay tuned for more details on what promises to be a touching and memorable celebration, capturing the enduring spirit of art in our community.
