Amazon: Big Economic Jolt

January 25, 2024

There are many people eagerly awaiting the construction of the massive Amazon facility slated to be built in Monroe, LA, which should provide an economic boost and offer more jobs in the area. City officials made the announcement of Amazon’s arrival several weeks ago, which no doubt will attract many residents in Ouachita Parish and the surrounding area. With a pay scale ranging from $17 to $28 an hour, many job seekers will see this as a way to live better lives for themselves and their families. The facility, upon completion, will be located at the intersection of Luffey Drive and I-20 N. Frontage Road, just east of Louisiana Delta Community College. According to city and Amazon officials, the 56,000-square-foot facility is called a last-mile distribution hub that will “enhance service in Monroe and throughout northeast Louisiana.” Monroe Mayor Friday Ellis, in a release, spoke of the economic impact the facility will have in the area. “The job opportunities and growth potential this partnership provides will change outcomes for local families. We are grateful Monroe’s potential is being recognized, and this investment is being made in our city,” the mayor said.

City officials are optimistic about the prospects of Amazon coming to Monroe because once operational, the facility is expected to contribute not only to job creation but also to the overall economic development of Monroe. According to the mayor’s office, both full-time and part-time jobs will be offered as the facility’s operational launch nears. Details on career opportunities will also be announced.
