James "Shack" Harris' Honors

October 26, 2023

Grambling - James "Shack" Harris with big sister Lucille Richards, fellow Carroll alum Brenda Sims, and family friend Thomas Moorehead.

At Grambling State University Eddie Robinson Stadium, former Grambling quarterbacks James "Shack" Harris and Doug Williams were honored by the football field being named Harris Williams Field during homecoming on Saturday, October 14, 2023. James "Shack" Harris is a former Carroll High School, Grambling State University, and National League Football (NFL) standout. Shack made NFL history by being the first Black quarterback to start in an NFL game. History would have been different if it hadn't been for his brave big sister Lucille Richards signing her brother's letter of intent. Former Carroll High School football coaches, the late Dorth Blade and Curtis Armand, pleaded with big sister Lucille Richards to sign her late mother's name, and the rest is history.
