At Grambling State University's homecoming football game on Saturday, October 14, 2023, two former Grambling former quarterbacks were honored. The football field at Eddie G. Robinson Stadium was named Harris-Williams Field in honor of former GSU athletes James "Shack" Harris and Doug Williams. Standout quarterback James " Shack" Harris starred at Carroll High School, Grambling, and the NFL as the first Black quarterback to start in a National Football League game. Doug Williams was a standout quarterback for Grambling and was the first Black quarterback to win a Superbowl championship. Both Harris and Williams are Grambling Hall of Famers.

Dispatch

James "Shack" Harris' big sister Lucille Richards teary eyed thinking if their mother could have witnessed this day, while if Big Sister Lucille hadn't signed the letter of intent for James "Shack" Harris to play football at Grambling, this day would never had happened.
