No Struggle, No Progress

Battery To Victory

Deadria "Dee" Talton is a survivor. She is a survivor of domestic abuse and is doing all she can to keep other women from becoming victims where so much is taken from someone. Talton had been in a domestic abuse relationship for years, but with the help, support, and prayers of loved ones, she has made it a life's mission to help others. On Saturday, October 14, 2023, Talton and women like her are having their 3rd annual event called "Celebrating the Queen In You" in the Caldwell Franklin Room at the Monroe Civic Center at 6:00 PM. The event is open to the public. The featured speaker will be Dr. Stonewall Hunter, Jr., with theme "Refocusing Your Lens Against All Odds" to let women know that they can even go through a domestic abuse situation and "refocus" and tell themselves that it is not okay to say that what they are going through is okay. Victims of domestic abuse have so much taken from them that they question themselves, wondering where they went wrong. Talton said that her goal is to open a safe house for victims of domestic abuse, as she is not judging anyone but wants victims to know that there is a way out. She says she wants to educate women and men on the dangers of domestic abuse. Women from all walks of society are subject to be victims of domestic abuse, especially those coming from homes where the abuse was present.

Talton said that her biggest reward is hearing about those who have been able to break away from the horrors of domestic abuse. There was a time when domestic abuse among women was kept in the closet. She still remembers what she and her children went through, knowing that she had to find the strength to survive for them. She never lost her faith in God while finding support from her grandmother and being able to be there for her children. October 14 is a big event for Talton and women who have survived the trauma of domestic abuse. For them, it is a cause of celebration. But they want it to be a celebration for all women, which is why she will host the event as long as she can. As a survivor, she has the victory. She is in charge of her life. She wants the same for other women who are going through what she went through. That is her goal.
