Last night I had the pleasure of watching new royalty take their place in the history of Wossman High School for its homecoming coronation ceremony. Senior Da'Naya Ross was crowned homecoming queen in the place where she established excellence on the court as a basketball player. The administration did a great job making sure it was special for her, and this was evident in the details of the occasion. What I like most is there was a break from what we are accustomed to seeing as a homecoming queen. She was a vision in white as she took the floor first, surprising her audience with a Ballet performance. She reappeared moments later in a beautiful custom white ball gown. Life is filled with many great, unforgettable moments like high homecomings. Embrace these moments with open arms, for they signify the beauty of interconnectedness. When it is your turn you will be surrounded by lots of love and support, and you should embrace it all with humility and gratitude. To Da'Naya and all the new queens who will begin their reign - You were selected for this moment for a reason. Let your light shine, as this is your time to let the world know who you are.
