Rufus Lewis, Jr. was born April 7, 1943, to the proud parents of the late Rufus Lewis, Sr. and Onita McDonald Lewis. Rufus accepted Christ at an early age and attended Zion Traveler Baptist Church for several years. He graduated from Carroll High School in 1962. Shortly after graduation from high school, he enlisted in the Air Force where he served his country until he was honorably discharged. Rufus moved to Detroit Michigan in the early 1960's and became employed at General Motors in the Fisher Body Plant division.
