Sherrouse Suspect Eludes Arrest

Disclaimer: All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty. An hours-long attempt by Monroe Police at a Sherrouse St. residence in Monroe, LA, in an effort to apprehend a wanted suspect was unsuccessful. MPD went to the residence on Wednesday, July 19, 2023 believing that the wanted suspect was there to execute a search warrant for his capture. According to MPD, the suspect has three felony arrest warrants for Aggravated Assault with a Firearm and Domestic Abuse Battery. A crowd of onlookers gathered around the area that police had sectioned off as they watched the SWAT Team conduct operations, trying to persuade the alleged suspect to come out of the residence. Some in the crowd seemed to have known who the alleged suspect was, even going so far as to say that after waiting a period of time to see what officers would do next, began to wonder if the suspect was still in the residence. Sources said that officers “were confident” that the suspect was in the residence, with one officer allegedly saying, “they wouldn’t be there” if the suspect weren't there.

Multiple attempts were made over a loudspeaker to compel the alleged suspect to surrender, as the minutes turned to hours, as he was considered to be armed and dangerous. A decision was made to deploy teargas into the residence in an effort to force the suspect out. Several rounds were deployed into the residence, and there was a gasp from the crowd as smoke billowed from the residence. A few minutes passed as the crowd and officers anticipated the alleged would leave the residence. Nothing happened. As police continue the search, they ask the community to contact them at 318-329-2600 or Crime Stoppers of North Delta at 318-388-2274 with tips to make an arrest.
