Shooting Call's Troubles

Disclaimer: All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty. The so-called war on drugs continues in communities across the nation, and the city of Monroe is no exception. It may be worth it to some, but not at the expense of losing your freedom or perhaps your life. On June 29, 2023, around 7:40 PM, Monroe Police responded to reports of numerous shots fired in an area containing apartments on Bunch Circle in Monroe, LA. Upon arrival at the apartment complex, officers said an anonymous witness told them that alleged shooters ran into a residence after firing their weapons on the streets, according to MPD. Officers would enter a residence where they encountered 25 -year-old Laketha York. Officers would engage in a conversation with York, where she allegedly admitted to having edibles in her refrigerator, which officers said were made with THC. The report did not say if officers were on a drug raid, but officers said that they located approximately 5 to 10 pounds of the edibles at the residence. According to police reports, York allegedly told them that “someone” gave her the narcotics. She also allegedly told officers that “someone” made the edibles, left them at her residence, and never came back for them. York was placed under arrest and charged with Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance and Possession with Intent to Distribute a Controlled Dangerous Substance. York’s bond was set at $10,750.
