Love Is Never Easy

Disclaimer: All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty. Relationships, by and large, are what we make of them. Most if not all start out innocent enough as two people seem to enjoy being in each other’s company. But, as we all know, relationships can change at the drop of a dime. A local woman recently found out just how toxic and perhaps dangerous a relationship can be when the other party shows a side that can be frightening. On Wednesday, June 14, 2023, police officers were sent to check on the condition of an alleged victim. When officers arrived where the victim was, they observed some bruising around her eye, blood in her left eye, and according to the report, numerous bruises on her arms and legs.

While interviewing the victim, officers would learn that the victim drove to a Monroe residence where her 40-year-old live-in-boyfriend lived on June 13, 2023. The victim told officers that Jacob Porter came outside as she arrived and he began to yell at her, demanding that she get out of the vehicle. The victim did not get out of her vehicle, which is when Porter allegedly grabbed a hammer and began to break the driver’s door and rear windows of the vehicle. According to the report, after the windows were broken, Porter allegedly pulled the victim from the vehicle and dragged her inside the residence. While inside, Porter allegedly tried to tie the victim’s arms and legs using zip ties. The victim tried to escape, as Porter chased after her, reaching the bedroom where he allegedly threw her to the ground, striking her numerous times on her upper thighs and stomach with closed fists.

Porter allegedly then used a bra strap in an attempt to strangle the victim, where she claimed that her vision started to go black. Porter then grabbed a knife and came back to the victim telling her, “B***th, I will f***ing kill you”. He grabbed the victim’s cell phone and car keys, causing the victim to believe that Porter actually would kill her if she tried to leave. Officers observed bruises on the victim’s neck and also observed glass from the broken windows and found several zip ties. When officers confronted Porter, he allegedly confessed that he did elbow the victim during a fight, but he did not drag her inside the residence. He also told officers that the victim could have left when she wanted to, adding that the victim damaged her own vehicle in order to keep him from leaving. Porter was charged with Domestic Abuse Battery, Domestic Abuse Aggravated Assault, Simple Criminal Damage to Property, False Imprisonment, Offender Armed With Dangerous Weapon, Simple Kidnapping, and Domestic Abuse Battery, Strangulation.
