Monroe Dispatch - No Struggle, No Progress

Disclaimer: All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty. A suspect that Monroe Police have sought for a shooting incident that happened in January has been arrested. Malik Long had been identified and accused of firing at police officers and was also wanted on other charges. According to multiple reports from Monroe Police Department, Long has been associated with other alleged crimes in the area, including a shooting incident at a local Walmart in Monroe LA. In the incident concerning Monroe Police Officers, Long was wanted for three counts of Attempted First-Degree Murder for shooting at officers and two counts of Attempted Second-Degree Murder that injured two juveniles. Illegal use of weapons and aggravated criminal damage to property stem from the Walmart incident. The capture and arrest of Long occurred on May 25, 2023, when officers arrived at a residence on Simon Street in Monroe in search of Long. According to MPD, Long was at the residence along with a 17-year-old individual whom officers did not identify. They were ordered to vacate the residence, which they refused. The MPD SWAT Team was also on the scene, as officers tried to negotiate with the two individuals for about two hours for them to surrender. When it appeared that neither individual would surrender, a decision was made to use CS gas in an effort to force them from the residence. The gas was deployed, causing both suspects to exit the residence, where they were taken into custody. Officers said that an AR-15 rifle and a Glock handgun with an extended magazine were found in the residence. The weapons were allegedly used in recent shootings, according to MPD. The children are screaming for our attention to help them as the adults of yesterday helped. There are three sides to every story. This was one side of this story.
