One has to wonder what Republicans in Congress and red states are going to do about trying to prevent school shooting after school shooting. The latest tragic event occurred in Nashville TN, Monday, March 27 at Covenant School, a private Christian school. What we are seeing is that it doesn’t matter if it is a public or private institution, school shootings seem to have gotten past a “normal thing” in America. The “thoughts and prayer” phase will come, as leaders, including those who are against any kind of sensible gun legislation, will bemoan as if this will be the last time a deadly incident like this will happen again. It has gotten to the point that people can recite verbatim what some leaders will say just to show a semblance of sympathy. However, it will matter most what they do after the victims are buried. The victims following this shooting were three children and three adults at the school. The person that allegedly did the shooting was a 28-year-old female, which is a stark departure from past school shooters or mass shooters in general. The female was killed, but only after the damage was already done. The big question millions will ask is, what will President Joe Biden do? The question that should be, and is already being asked, is what will Congress do, specifically Republicans? This reporter is asking Louisiana’s Republicans in Congress, just what are they going to propose. Don’t get in your “comfort zone” because it hasn’t happened here. Those poor people in Nashville probably felt secure that they would not be victims of what seems like countless school shootings over the last thirty years.

We need to ask our leaders how one of the most technological countries in the world can’t have sound gun legislation like other countries. Canada has guns, but nowhere near the kinds of shootings that this nation experiences. England has one of the world’s premier police forces and guns, but incidents of mass shooting pale in comparison to America. Switzerland is a nation where its citizens own guns, but there are sound gun laws in place that the people want. There are restrictions that hold the owners responsible for their guns, as guns are not taken away before someone commits a felony because the government places emphasis on responsible gun ownership which can lead to the loss of their gun. America likes to tout herself as a leader in many things. Being the leader in a mass shooting is not something any other nation envies about us. Time and time again, the world bares witness to another mass shooting, whether it is in school or the workplace, and many leaders must be wondering why we allow these things to continually happen.

A woman named Ashbey Beasley asked the one question that many leaders in Congress who turn their backs on gun legislation will be afraid to answer. Beasley asked a Fox News crew if they “were tired of covering this”, and all of these mass shootings. She then said something that millions of people have been saying all along, saying, “These mass shootings will continue to happen until our lawmakers step up and pass gun safety regulations”. Switzerland did it and its citizens feel safe in their country. Why can’t we? This reporter will repeat once again that thoughts and prayers are dead if there is no faith and action behind them, that what is being done is morally right for the nation. We can only hope that the next school shooting doesn’t involve relatives of those in Congress who sit and do nothing. You will hear about putting more guns in schools by “good guys”, without mentioning the NRA. You won’t hear a thing about how easy it is for an individual like the female shooter to walk around armed with two “assault-style” rifles and a handgun near a school and not be stopped. Republicans are not ready to face those questions now and if history is an example, they will never be ready. Remember, the world is watching. So is God.
