Disclaimer: All persons are presumed innocent until proven. A local man who was a "person of interest" following the shooting death of 45-year-old Derrick Moore has now been identified. Monroe Police Department (MPD) shared a press release on Monday, February 13, 2023, identifying Calvert J. Antoine as the alleged suspect. Antoine was allegedly involved with another suspect in Moore's death at a southside convenience store on Sunday, February 5, 2023. Antione was charged with Second Degree Murder, Conspiracy to Commit Murder, Obstruction of Justice, and Possession of a Firearm by a convicted felon. Antoine and an alleged accomplice, identified as 18-year-old Nakeya Baker, allegedly spotted Moore at the business, as Antoine went into the store, saw Moore, and struck him to the ground. According to MPD, Antoine waved Baker to come into the store where she allegedly saw Moore on the floor.

Both of them then left the store. Once Moore realized that Antoine and Baker were gone, he began walking home. Shots rang out on State St. shortly after. Law enforcement authorities later confirmed that a Black male had been shot dead. Baker would be interviewed by police, as it was confirmed that she was with the alleged suspect whom officers would arrest in the shooting of Moore. Police issued a "person of interest" picture of Antoine and soon heard from witnesses who offered accounts of the white vehicle that Baker and Antoine were seen in, confirming that both were in the area of the shooting. Baker, police say, would not tell them who the shooter was; she was charged with Felony Criminal Conspiracy to Commit Murder. Antoine, according to police, has a lengthy record from previous arrests. He has been arrested for Battery of a Police Officer, Aggravated Burglary, Aggravated Battery, Second-Degree Battery, Simple Kidnapping, and Illegal Possession of a Stolen Firearm.
