Disclaimer All persons are innocent until proven guilty. According to police reports, one or more individuals were reported to have fired shots at officers of the Monroe Police Department (MPD). The alleged incident took place around Kingsway Apartments in Monroe, LA. Monroe Police said the shooting took place Saturday, January 28, 2023. It is unclear if the officers involved were on regular patrol or if they were responding to a call. There also appeared to be no witnesses to the shooting or possible suspects, as details given by city officials were incomplete during the briefing completed by city of Monroe Media Relations Director, Michelli Martin. Martin shared that Mayor Friday Ellis and Police Chief "Vic" Zordan's consensus and thoughts are fairly the same as both leaders said that the actions of the shooter(s) "were unacceptable". Martin also stated that "taking aim at innocent bystanders, innocent citizens, or first responders is unacceptable". Martin didn't explain if anyone other than police officers were shot at or if that was a general reference to everyday people. She shared that they [MPD officers] are working diligently to bring the persons responsible to justice, and leaders for the city of Monroe are taking this very seriously, urging citizens to send in any information about the incident to call MPD at 318-329-2600 Crime Stoppers of North Delta at 318- 388-CASH (2274). Martin concluded, "If you are a citizen and you know something, say something. We rely on your help as well. Obviously, our officers are working incredibly hard, but if you know anything and you know people talk, please share that information with us".


Update: All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty. Monroe Police announced Tuesday, January 31, 2023 that an arrest has been made in connection to an incident where shots were fired toward officers near the Kingsway apartment complex. MPD identified the alleged shooter as Suspect E'Marion D. Graham. MPD also gave more details about the Saturday, January 28, 2023 incident. Police allege they received gunfire directed towards them immediately after arriving at the apartment complex by four individuals. MPD said that the alleged shooters directed around forty shots at officers. The four suspects reportedly fled the scene, but MPD said they had all been identified. Monroe Police say that they were able to identify Suspect Graham because he was seen on camera running toward the corner of one of the buildings when the shooting started. Officers apprehended Suspect Graham during a foot chase after going to a residence at 3900 Carver. According to MPD, Graham was in possession of a 9mm handgun. Officers also said that Graham was suspected of being involved in multiple shootings in Monroe over the past year. The homeowner told officers that Graham didn't have permission to be in the residence and wanted to press charges for burglary. According to the report, Graham said that he was at the residence because he missed school and was there hanging out. There are three sides to every story. This was one side of this story.
