Martha T. Caston's Final Farewell

Martha T. Caston

It saddens us to announce that Martha T. Caston passed away during the morning of December 17, 2022, at the age of 98. She was born on May 28, 2024, to the union of John Alex and Ollie Thompson and grew up in Monroe Louisiana and attended Little Flower of Jesus Catholic Church. Martha enjoyed a lifelong career as an educator teaching during segregation which required her to travel in 1952 to Crowley, LA to teach at Ross Elementary School, Acadia Parish. After segregation ended and schools were integrated Martha worked in Monroe, LA, Ouachita Parish, where she continued her teaching career until she retired from Monroe City Schools. Martha was a founding member of The Knights of Peter Claver, Ladies Auxiliary, Court #160, and a charter member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., where she pledged at Grambling State University. Martha passed away 17 days after her beloved sister, Margaret T. Dorsey who passed on November 30, 2022, at the age of 101. She also attended Little Flower of Jesus and as a teenager, she was a part of the original group who helped to establish Little Flower Church when Fr. Anselm was the priest. For the past seven years Martha has resided in Oakland, CA since 2015 with her daughter, Charlotte Lynette Martin, and her grandchildren.


Martha is survived by her only child Charlotte Lynette Martin, and brother, Robert "Butch" Raymie. Grandchildren, Lynette Martin, Theresa Stroud (Rhuepell), Crystal Martin, Curtis Martin, III, and great grandsons, Robert Stroud, Raphael Stroud, Christian Martin, Curtis Martin, IV, a niece Margaret Thornton (Sam), nephew Stephen Dorsey, and a host of loving cousins and family members. Martha was preceded in death by her husband, David Caston, parents, John Alex and Ollie Thompson, sisters, Margaret Dorsey and Elvenia T. Haynes, brother, Frank David Thompson and granddaughter, Martha Olivia Martin.
