1.2 million people in the United States and 38 million people worldwide are currently living with HIV. There are 35,000 new HIV diagnoses every year in the United States and 1.7 million new diagnoses each year worldwide. Approximately 36 million people have died of AIDS-related illnesses, making it one of the deadliest pandemics in history. Each year on December 1st, we commemorate World AIDS Day, which honors people with HIV who have lost their lives.
