K-12 Education Accountability Rejected

November 17, 2022

BESE board members voted on Thursday, November 10, 2022 to reject a proposal that would have made Louisiana’s K-12 accountability system more transparent. Many Louisiana students cannot write or spell their names, recognize alphabets, or read. "BESE failed Louisiana's kids today, siding with a deeply entrenched education status quo to reject an updated and improved K-12 accountability system. Our system has failed Louisiana families for far too long. Today, the board chose to continue down the same failed pathway. We'll keep fighting for greater transparency, accountability, and innovation for Louisiana's kids and families, and we encourage our elected officials to do the same. It's too important to fail." said Pelican Institute Executive director Daniel Erspamer.
