Police officers of the Monroe Police Department and other law enforcement officers within the Ouachita Parish area are looking for a suspected gunman involved in a recent shooting. According to MPD, a shooting happened Aug. 19, 2022 ( Friday) around 2:30 p.m. in the 700 block of Matthew St. in Monroe. The shooting officers said, occurred near the Jesus the Good Shepard School. When officers arrived on the scene, two unidentified individuals were located suffering from gunshot wounds, that was said to be non-life-threatening. The victims are said to be in a local hospital recovering from their injuries. Upon further questioning, detectives at the scene determined that what happened was an "isolated" incident, that the shooting was between two groups that knew one another. Detectives were also able to establish that 17-year-old De'quris Lawrence as the alleged shooter. Lawrence whereabouts are unknown, as Crimestoppers alerts has been posted for his capture. Lawrence is wanted for attempted second degree murder along with a burglary charge from a previous incident. MPD also said that Lawrence should be considered armed and dangerous.
