Victim Ebony L. Lewis

Disclaimer: All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty. In an incident that is still very common in Louisiana, a local Ouachita Parish man has been arrested in connection with the murder of his former girlfriend. Local law enforcement officials say that 25-year-old Jarvis D. Taylor was charged with Second Degree Murder in the death of Ebony L. Lewis in the Town and country area of Ouachita Parish. Taylor, according to Monroe/West Monroe and the Ouachita Parish Sheriff's Office said that Taylor was a suspect in the July 8, 2022 death of Lewis after receiving information around 4:41 AM in the morning and that at approximately 5:01 AM, the alleged suspect was located on the Louisville Bridge contemplating suicide. In a standoff that lasted hours on the bridge, officers were able to convince Taylor from jumping into the Ouachita River, as law enforcement had officers positioned in boats to retrieve Taylor had he jumped from the bridge. Monroe police chief Vic Zordan said that officers were in constant dialogue with Taylor and as he appears as if he was about to jump, officers quickly moved in and prevented Taylor from jumping. Taylor is currently being housed at the Ouachita Correctional Center. As the investigation continues into Lewis' death, information from MPD revealed that there was a protective order in place against Taylor by Lewis. According to court records, the order was violated allegedly by Taylor in 2020. Information from OPSO revealed that Taylor was arrested last month for violating that order in June 2022, but the district attorney for Ouachita Parish (and Morehouse Parish) declined to prosecute the case. District Attorney Steve Tew said that there "was no proof" that Taylor violated the order. There is a B.A.L.M. in Monroe is a Spiritual solution to a Social problem. A B.A.L.M. is a collaborative plan that every citizen, elected and appointed official clergy man and organization can participate in to help improve the image of Monroe while inspiring at-risk makes to take more responsibility for their actions and respect the lives of others.
