Jimmy Jones Gymnasium

The Monroe City School Board, on November 9, 2021, voted to have Carroll High School Gymnasium in Monroe LA dedicated to the late Coach Jimmy Jones, son of Goldman Jones Sr. and Hattie Mae Jones. The letters were placed on the gymnasium June 27, 2022. During Jimmy Jones' tenure as the Carroll High School Boys Basketball Coach, he had the honor of coaching phenomenal student-athletes in Louisiana, received Head Coach of the District 14 times, High School Coach of the Year 14 times, Head Coach of the Year for the State of Louisiana in 4-A, 1982 State Champions and Undefeated in the State of Louisiana, 38-1. His United States High School national rankings include Carroll Basketball as #12 in the country in 1982, #18 in 1985, and #11 in 1986. Coach Jones finished 8th as the United States National Coach of the Year in 1986. He was selected and served as an Assistant Basketball Coach in the McDonald's All-Star game. Coach Jones led the Carroll High School Girls Basketball team to a District title, his first year out of retirement as the Head Coach. While with his girls, Jones was named District 3-A Basketball Coach of the Year by the Louisiana Sportswriters Association, Northeast Louisiana Big School Coach of the Year, and the State of Louisiana Girls Basketball Coach of the Year. It was the first time a girls' coach had been named in all three categories! Coach Jimmy Jones was the Head Coach of the Carroll Jr. High School Girls Basketball Team, where they achieved the best record of 55-0, undefeated. Jimmy Jones' dedication and drive were only exceeded by his willingness to help others and give back to his family and community, which he loved. Jimmy Jones' devoted wife Mary Jones (56 years), Allan Jones, Angela Jones, Sharon Jones Small, and Jimari Jones are most grateful and thankful to the Monroe City School Board, members of the Community, Carroll High School Bulldog Booster Club, former students, players, student-athletes, referees, and officials who advocated and presented before the board to dedicate Carroll High School Gymnasium – Jimmy Jones Gymnasium.
