Modern Efficiencies

Born in the 80s, I can honestly say I have had great childhood and coming-of-age experiences that spanned across significant decades. My house is musical, and I remember things like records and a record player, but the portable cassette player stood out to me most. I remember the yellow Walkman my dad wore as a symbol of pride and significance. I even remember my dad purchasing one each for my brothers and me and being bummed when I broke a button or lost my headphones. Then along came the cd player! I loved it because I thought it was so cool and cutting-edge. I loved seeing the palatial speaker and 10-disc cd tower. I only owned the small portable stereo system with the cd-and tape player, and it served me just fine because I could transport it wherever I wanted to dance. I even remember beginning my freshman year of college, walking to class with a portable cd player. A few months later, I made a friend who owned an iPod, which was a small device that held downloadable music. I was finally able to get one six months later. Since then, I have consumed most of my music through digital streaming services and devices exclusively. Beyond music, technology has advanced so much in our lives. I feel so fortunate to see and experience this evolution. To generations above me - there's beauty and fun in embracing change. Keep what you like most, and do not use what you do not. To generations below me - learn all you can about technology and apply it in all you do. This way, you will always be able to adapt.
