What do you believe?

A belief is having trust, faith, or confidence in something, an idea, or a thought. It is deemed as an acceptance that a statement or thing is true or actually exists. When we are asked what we believe in, the concept goes beyond our thoughts of if we believe a higher being exists. Our beliefs are our values and what makes us who we are. We were all given an individual mind for a reason. We were given our own brains to formulate our own thoughts about what we believe, creating insight and understanding based on what we believe. Our beliefs are most often shaped by our life. These certain principles are established as we go through school, grow up, and face life experiences that shape what we believe. It is important that we work as hard as we can to keep the values that we believe in so that we are not living a life contrary to what we believe. There’s a line in Stevie Wonder’s song “Superstition” where he says, “If you believe in things that you don’t understand, you’ll suffer.” This powerful statement is translated to simply mean – Don’t just believe in something for the sake of having something to believe in; think about what you believe and why you believe in it. Take the time to understand it and own it. Think about what you believe. It is important to choose our beliefs wisely. Can you fully live what you believe? Do you live what you believe?
