Tawanna James & the Gloria Chorus

On Saturday, February 26, 2022 Tawanna James along with chorus members Henrietta Woods and Dana McFee Williams presented The Gloria Chorus Black History Cantata at the Greater New Antioch Baptist Church of Monroe. The cantata was themed "Whom Shall I Fear?" and choral as well as gospel selections were presented with sounds reminiscent of the 60's, 70's, and 80's. The passionate spirit-filled evening included plenty of rejoicing, hand clapping, and attendees singing along as well as standing to their feet. The program included scripture by Chaunta Spears; prayer by Pastor Pernell Ford; praise dance by Amanda Nabors and Pastor Seane Kelley and Elder Joshua Lathan as song leaders. The chorus honored their 2022 Pioneers in Music Award recipients including Mother Dorothy Nation, Minister Mary Byrd, Patricia Cherry Keys, and husband/wife duo Julius Ralph Taylor and Carolyn P. Taylor. They also gave tribute to the legendary gospel music songwriter Dr.Margaret Pleasant Douroux. This year's Black History Cantata was one to remember, and the chorus looks forward to its upcoming Summer 2022 cantata.
