We have developed a Parental Involvement Task Force for the purpose of focusing on exploring existing definitions and creating a new definition of family engagement and creating an action oriented plan for the district. Practicing equitable family engagement requires an intentional, long-term effort to change ingrained perceptions, beliefs, and regular practices of school staff. This is not an effort schools can undertake on their own; to be successful, school staff will need to work with district personnel, families and the community to facilitate communication, trust, and changes in practice over time. Our next scheduled meeting is Wednesday, February 23 from 5pm to 6pm where we will be discussing Decision Making.
