Life & Legacy

Our Gift December 24, 1927- His Gift January 26, 2022

Nathe Kindle was born December 24, 1927 in Sterlington LA, a small farming area called Horseshoe Lake. He was the youngest of four children born to Clarence Kindle and Dove Kindle (Smith). Nathe had two sisters: Lillian & L.E. and one brother: Lawyer. Nathe graduated from Horseshoe Lake Elementary School which was located in the church. He then attended high school in Sterlington's Monroe Colored High School. While still at home Nathe helped his parents by working in the fields picking cotton. While attending high school Nathe met the love of his life the beautiful, smart, well dressed Herberdenia. They would be together for the next 75 years. Nathe and Herberdenia married December 1947. With 2 children and another on the way looking for better job opportunities Nathe moved to Chicago 1950. Nathe and Herberdenia were a team. Seeing to it that all 6 of their children graduated from college and each had a car while in college. To save money for college and cars Nathe had designated the money from each part-time job for a specific child and or car. He would not spend that money. Nathe continued to offer support to his children once they graduated from college. He supported his grandchildren financially, with cars and care packages. They spent their every "vacation" going home to Monroe LA to visit their parents, siblings, cousins and friends. Nathe was an aspiring architect, but life got in the way. Nathe experienced plenty of racism. Coming from Louisiana where there were white's only bathroom and water fountains, being told you can't vote, being refused to service at the gas station because "we don't serve "N". This Valentines Day weekend Nathe has rejoined his partner of 75 years and life love of his life Herberdenia. Nathe departed this earth Wednesday January 26, 2022. Nathe was preceded in death by Herberdenia his bride of 73 years, life partner of 75 years, his son's Curtis and Tyrone; parents: Clarence & Dove Smith-Kindle; sibling's Lillian, L.E. and Lawyer; cousin Oscar Carter and nephew Terry Carter. Remembering him with love are his 5 children: Rita McCune, Evelyn Pharms, Michael Kindle, Herberdenia Phillips, Aldophus (Harriette) Kindle; daughter-in-law Kathryn Kindle; fifteen grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and 13 step grandchildren.
