Matthew Irving Sims Sr., better known as Bear, was born on April 21, 1952 in Monroe, LA to the late Joseph Sr. and Helen Sims. Br. Matthew was a member of the Philadelphia Word Church. He served on the Board of Trustees and in the church cafeteria ministry. Matthew was married to Beverly for 46 years, and from this union he had three children - two daughters and one son, Rita, Chee-Chee, and Amie. He was preceded in death by one brother, Joseph Sims Jr.
