Welton Holman

Welton M. Holman was born in Monroe, La. on December 7, 1946, to the late Helen Holman Gary & Edward Calhoun, Jr. He was raised by Paul & Marie Taylor during his young years. His godfather, Legendary Coach Mackie Freeze, entered his life during his early childhood years and remained a loyal and devoted godfather throughout his life. He went to his eternal home on January 24, 2022.

Razor or Coach, as he was affectionately called by his wife, friends, family, and students, accepted Christ at an early age. He united with St. Timothy Baptist Church to worship by his godfather's side. He became a faithful Deacon and continued to do so all the way until God dispatched his angel to bring him to his eternal home.

Coach Holman graduated from Richwood High School in Monroe, La. and went on to attend college at Southern University where he obtained a bachelor's degree. He furthered his education at Louisiana Tech University where he received his master plus. During his years at Southern University, he was a member of the football team where he served as Co-Captain. He spent most his years an educator, coach, and mentor at The Carroll High School in Monroe, La where he continued to teach even after his retirement. During his career, he had the pleasure of coaching and mentoring Jalen Richard, Las Vegas Raiders at Peabody High School, Alexandria, LA.

His marriage, family, football, cooking, and grilling were loves of his life. He enjoyed fishing, substitute teaching, traveling, and attending sporting events as well. He had an infectious personality and a smile that brought joy to everyone he encountered. Coach Holman never met a stranger. He will continue to live on through the legacy he imparted in his family, loved ones, football players, students, and friends.

He was preceded in death by both his biological and custodial parents, a host of aunts and uncles, sisters and brothers, and special friends.

He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife and best friend, Patricia Holman; six daughters, Sonya Bayone (Zachary), Rockville, MD; Shawn Ward, Houston TX; Andrea Reese Stewart, Baton Rouge, LA; Jacquelyn Stevenson (Joseph), Katy, TX; Alicia Jackson Butler (Adrian), Monroe, LA; Katrina Jackson, Monroe LA; three sons, Cedric Holman (Regina), Shreveport, LA; Mickel Holman (Ulonda), Monroe, LA; Walter Jackson, Jr., Houston, TX; a special niece and nephew, Rotunda Ward, Houston, TX; Raymond Reed (Rahill), Houston, TX; 19 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; extended family, Walter and Linda Jackson, Monroe, LA; Dr. Tahir and Jennifer Qayyum, Monroe, LA; Dr. Janet Floyd, Monroe, LA; Samuel and Joseph Andrews, Monroe, LA; godfather, Legendary Coach Mackie Freeze, Monroe, LA; one goddaughter, Dorothy Reed (Gill), Little Rock, AR; two godsons, Terrance Arnold, Monroe, LA and Alex Wade (Shemicka), Monroe, LA; one aunt, Elsie Polite, Chicago, IL; one uncle, Thomas Holman, Avondale, AZ; two sisters, Cheryl Gindratt, Dallas, TX and Odessa Hunter, Rockville, MD.; one brother, James Gary, Rockville, MD. Funeral services are Saturday January 29, 2022 at 11am at Greater New Antioch Baptist Church 301 Sherrouse Ave. Monroe LA. Interment Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery Visitation is Friday January 28 from 1-5pm Miller Funeral Home Monroe LA.
