Carroll High School is a historic Afro-American educational institution that has stood the test of time during some turbulent years and yet it still stands at its Renwick Street address. It being the only high school in the city of Monroe LA for Black children, has carve its niche in Ouachita Parish and is letting other neighboring high schools that it is not done. The school has served the community well, as it has sent out into the community, the nation and the world some of the best and brightest minds from the Black Monroe community. it is hoped that the school will be around for many generations to come. There have been some infrastructure problems over the years at Carroll with some, but not all of them being addressed over the years. Some of that is about to change as much needed repairs/renovations are set to begin at Carroll.

Monroe City Schools Board President, Daryll Berry spoke to The Dispatch recently and said that funds are being allocated for long overdue repairs/renovations. Berry said that after a budget meeting with Carroll Alumni and Boosters, funds are set aside for work to be done at the school in areas that has been in the eyes of many in the community, been neglected for too long. Among those things slated to be done at the school are restroom renovations the school's gym floor, the heating/ac system and the band room. The cost for each work project is as follows, with (1) the heat/ac system is approximately $1 million, (2) the gym floor about $600.000, (3) work in all of the restrooms is about $1.5 million and (4) the band room is about $1.8 million dollars.

There have been other additions at Carroll such as the Medical Magnet Complex and work had also been done to the school's choir room. Berry said that the steps are necessary to help maintain its status/place in the community in order to maintain its identity and the traditions that has set Carroll apart from other schools. There will still be more work that needs to be done at the school, but what is being done now, will ensure that the school will be standing for those future generations. Years from now, a future Carroll graduate will be able to say that during his/her time at the school, they were proud to carry on the traditions that was passed on by those who, today, is working in making that happen for future generations.
