Matthew 24:10 - And then many will be offended, will betray one another, and will hate one another. One can never truly foresee the tragic difficulties we may have in our lives, especially when it comes to struggles with our family. Saturday, August 1, 2021, is a day one Monroe family will never forget after family drama led to a series of very unfortunate events. According to police reports, police responded to a disturbance on Marx St. where officers found a Black female with a severe injury to the head. Prior to police arriving, a sister found her mother and brother, suspect Eric D. Long, in an alarming situation. According to witnesses, the suspect pushed one of his sisters down and took her car keys. He then started his sister's vehicle without her permission while she stood in front of the driver's side door in an attempt to stop him. Long then put the car in reverse and accelerated at a high speed with the door open, knocking the sister to the ground, running over her head. The vehicle crashed in a ditch across the street when the suspect jumped from the car. He then began to fight his sister again. It was later revealed that Long was under the influence of PCP. Police found him in the Marx St. residence, where he resisted arrest. Several officers deployed tasers to get him handcuffed. His sister was airlifted to Shreveport, LA to Ochsner's in critical condition. Long was charged with aggravated second-degree battery, simple battery, unauthorized use of a moveable vehicle, and violently resisting police. There are three sides to every story. This was one side of this story. The Monroe Dispatch welcomes another or the other side of this story.
