Recovery's Right Turn

Life can sometimes throw you a curveball just as you think a fastball straight down the middle is coming. We may think that we are one step ahead, but life is not a straight line from point A to point B. We can be thankful for having the support of family, but there comes a time when an individual has to stand on their own two feet, especially when they can. A local man says that he is doing just that, as he has taken the necessary steps to, as he said, get his life back in order. He shared that he is recovering from some things that can take control over one's life if they don't recognize the warning signs. Once he made up his mind to seek help, he enrolled in a recovery house and knew that it was the right thing to do. He had to pay his way to be where he needed to be, so he got a job, which was an accomplishment in itself. Just as he was about to begin the program, he was told that he had to leave. The demand for him to go took him by surprise because he was doing what was asked of him. The pain of hearing he had to leave was further exacerbated because he was told by an employee of the facility and not by one of the administrators.

At that point, he had a choice to make. He had a job, could support himself, and regained confidence. He said that he could have gone back home but wanted to do what he had to do by himself. He told himself that with God's help, he could make it. He also wanted to get things right with his lady companion because she meant so much to him. As he was deciding which way to go, someone he knew told him of another recovery house, offering that a new beginning might be better for him. He enrolled in a different house, and it wasn't long before he realized that's where he belonged. He is making good progress and is almost two months clean. Now, there is undeniable excitement in his voice because he wouldn't let one setback hold him back. He says that he is sharing his story in hopes of helping someone who may be walking in shoes just like his. He is thankful for recovery houses, as they are often the last hope for many who may not have a family for support. He is grateful for the help that he has received but will continue to lean on God, thanking Him for what He has done in his life. For him, he says, it is a new lease on life.
