Swanson Escapes Escalate

Swanson

More troubling news continues to emanate from the Swanson Youth Center, as three more inmates broke out from the facility. The latest escape is believed to have happened sometime after 9:00 PM, Tuesday, July 13, 2021, as Monroe police officers arrived at the facility shortly thereafter. The three inmates have been identified as Tre'veon Jackson, Curtis Tassin, and Brandt Bennett. Swanson officials have released no other information regarding their detention as of press time. It is still unclear how the three managed to escape, but there was speculation that the three may have climbed over the northeast perimeter fence at the facility. Police officers searched the immediate vicinity but were unable to find the inmates.

In a media release, police officers responded to reports of a stolen automobile located blocks from Swanson. The automobile, a 2010 Nissan Altima, was stolen from an address on Pershing Ave. The three escapees are believed to have stolen the vehicle according to descriptions given to the police.

Swanson's disturbing trend of violence and escapes points to problems that officials at the local and state level don't seem to have solutions to. Within the last two months, June-July 2021, there has been a violent incident at Swanson where an employee was injured and an incident of a carjacking in broad daylight. Now with the news of another escape from the facility, solutions, whether temporary or permanent, are needed to keep inmates from escaping so often, should be the number one priority. There is talk of stiffer penalties for Swanson inmates that commit violent acts, treating them as adults. That may be a deterrent, but the issue should be keeping them inside the facility, as security at the facility has to be the primary concern.

Plenty of questions, but no answers. Another escape is a major possibility. Let's hope that it doesn't happen. Swanson inmates go and come when they please in South Monroe, where the facility is located. Hoping nothing ever drastic happens with Swanson inmates, where someone innocent pays the ultimate price.
