Monroe Dispatch - No Struggle, No Progress

On July 13, 2020, I, former Monroe City Council Kenneth Wilson petitioned Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards to make Juneteenth an official state holiday. I was the only elected official to send this suggestion to the Louisiana Governor. I offer this note as a thank you to those who have trusted in my leadership over the years and during our state's challenging times related to Covid-19. I continue to advocate daily, encouraging citizens to practice safety guidelines so that lives can be spared, and ultimately be rid of this horrible virus. The purpose of this note is to again, say thank you for your support in getting the state's approved observance of Juneteenth. On Thursday, June 10, 2021 Governor Edwards made it official!
