An allegedly unfortunate horror soured the start of summer at an apartment complex and community after witnesses shared stories of a 24-year-old mother pushing her children out of her apartment window then jumping out herself. Dejhanay Jarrell was the identified mom who first dropped her infant baby, then her 2-year-old son, out of the window. She was also seen naked, jumping from the 2nd-floor apartment herself. Carl Chin was an eyewitness to the horrific moment and shared the condition of each child found. The infant, Chin said, seemed to be the worst off since she fell facedown; the toddler seemed ok and had not cried or expressed any discomfort. Witnesses also say Jarrell bashed one of the children's heads into the ground repeatedly after they fell. Jarrell's neighbor, Dawn Allen, 42, shared that she heard screaming from the apartment as if someone died just about 24 hours before the unfortunate incident. "You couldn't see anything to know that something would be happening to her one day. Then I heard a thump," she said. Another neighbor said they did not know Jarrell had children and thought that she lived alone. She and her children had not been living at the residence that long. According to Allen, no one heard much from the family before the incident. She has been charged with two counts of assault, two counts of reckless endangerment, and two counts of attempted murder. An investigation is still active. The family has been hospitalized and is expected to survive, though the one-month-old girl is in critical condition.
